swiss handwoven rug/wall hanging

vintage handwoven rug / wall hanging. Made in Switzerland in Valle Verzasca, Ticino. 75 cm x 240.
I bought it from a woman who told me she had it as a baby in her room to decorate the walls. It comes with metal rings to hang it, but you can also remove them and use it as a rug on the floor.
Until the 20th century, woman used to keep all damaged fabrics to bring it to a weaver. They would tear it into straps and weave them into a rug. This is why it has so many colours!

As I spend so much time on flea markets  to look for inspiration and fabrics, it suddenly became obvious that I should bring back some treasures I find to you. My selection include mainly pieces made from natural fibers, high quality textiles, some home-made unique pieces, workwear and some historical pieces.
